Technology Education and Pre-K Social Studies Curriculum

ISTE standard Empowered Learner 1.1.d states

students will understand fundamental concepts of how technology works, demonstrate the ability to choose

and use current technologies effectively, and are adept at thoughtfully exploring emerging technologies.

I will be using this ITSE standard combined with Oklahoma Social Studies standard PK.2.1 which states Explain

that a map is a drawing of a place. During a teacher led lesson about community helpers, students will sort

pictures of community helpers and non-community helpers using a Google Slides presentation. 

After they have completed the sorting activity, the teacher will guide them in using google

maps to identify the community helpers in their town. Once, the community helpers in the town have

been located, the teacher will provide a blank map of the town drawn in a google slides presentation. 

The students will use the shape pieces provided in the presentation to manipulate and locate the

community helpers on the map.

    I am also a social studies teacher, but in Arkansas. We are doing maps this week, even in High School. I love that Oklahoma has these type of standards for the younger generations also.
